Robin, your story partner, is the conversation beside every chapter in Write in a Click. Ask about a plot problem, a character's motive or where a chapter should end, and Robin answers with your book in front of it: the chapters the question needs, your Story Hub, and the voice attached to the book. Robin Mode, the default, is advice only. Skills such as Grill Me and Character Deep-Dive give the conversation a shape, and anything worth keeping can be saved as a Chapter Note or Free Note.
Robin starts with the book open: the chapters your question needs, your Story Hub and the voice attached to the book, so you do not spend the first ten minutes re-explaining it. Its conversations are kept with the book, and if you come back within twelve hours Robin picks up the last chat where you left it.
Press "Ask Robin" in the editor toolbar, or open "Chat with Robin" in the side rail. Robin greets you and asks "Where should we start?"
Type into "Ask about your book, characters, or writing…". Robin reads the chapters your question needs, your Story Hub and your voice before answering.
Grill Me, Story Grilling, Character Deep-Dive, Beta-Reader Critique and Search in Book turn a chat into a focused session.
Save a reply as a Chapter Note or a Free Note, so the idea lands in the Story Hub instead of scrolling away.
Robin works from the book. For each question it gathers the chapters the question needs and keeps them in mind for the rest of the conversation. It also reads the book's details, the writing voice attached to the book, and your Story Hub entries, from characters to world rules to the timeline.
On a long manuscript, Robin reads the chapter you are in in full and works from summaries of the others. That is what keeps a 120,000-word book answerable, and it is why a question about a specific scene in another chapter works best when you name it.
If the book is part of a series on Pro, Robin also sees the series description and summaries of the earlier books: their plots, character arcs, changes to the world and unresolved threads.
An open chat is good for quick questions. For the harder ones, skills give Robin a job. Grill Me is a relentless design interview about a new idea, character or storyline: one branch at a time, one question per turn, each with Robin's recommended answer, and it says so when your answer collides with something already on the page. It ends with entries you can save to the Story Hub. Story Grilling pressure-tests the premise, stakes, motivation and plot holes, one sharp question at a time. Character Deep-Dive follows one character's voice and arc through the book. Beta-Reader Critique reads chapter by chapter and reacts like a first reader: the hook, the momentum, the payoff, and an honest verdict. Search in Book finds where a thread was planted or what a character said, quoting the actual lines.
You can also write your own skills with "Create skill", for the questions you ask every book: "Is this chapter doing two jobs?", "What does the reader know at this point?"
Robin Mode is the default, and it is advice only: Robin talks, you write. If you switch to Edit Mode, Robin can suggest a change to a passage. It appears marked as a suggestion from Robin, and nothing lands in your text until you press Keep. Most writers use Robin Mode for brainstorming, and that is what this page is about.
Conversations are kept. "New chat" starts fresh, history is searchable, and if you come back within twelve hours Robin picks up the last chat where you left it.
Each plan includes a monthly amount of time with Robin, shown in the app as "Robin this month" and a percentage. At 80% you get a heads-up. Plans also differ in how many steps Robin can take on one request, such as reading, searching the book and checking the Story Hub, before it answers: more steps means deeper answers to hard questions.
| Plan | What you get |
|---|---|
| Starter (free) | Robin in every chapter. Up to 3 steps per request. No web search. |
