Your book is yours. That has to be true on the way out, not only on the way in. So this page does two things: it shows you how to take every word with you, and it shows you how to close your account for good. No retention call, no support queue you have to argue your way through, no reason to explain yourself.
Delete your account
Deleting your account also deletes the personal data attached to it. There are three ways to do it, and all three end in the same place.
1. In the app — the fastest way
Open Settings → Delete account in the Write in a Click iOS app, Android app, or web app, and confirm. This is the same step on every device.
2. On the web — no install needed
If you have uninstalled the app, or you would rather not reinstall it, sign in at https://app.writeinaclick.com/delete-account and confirm there. Nothing to download.
3. By email — if you cannot get in
Locked out, lost the address you signed up with, or the account is on a device you no longer have? Email support@writeinaclick.com from the address on the account if you can, and ask us to delete it. We may ask you for information that verifies the account is yours before we go ahead — that check protects your manuscripts from someone else asking on your behalf. We respond within the timeframes the law requires.
Take your writing with you first
Deletion is permanent, so do this before you delete, not after. Every plan including the free one can export, and there is no limit on your way out. Open your book and export it to PDF, EPUB, DOCX, RTF, or plain text. DOCX is the one to take if you are moving to another editor.

What gets deleted
- Your account and the profile attached to it.
- Your books, chapters, outlines, Story Hub entries, version history, and drafts.
- Anything stored on your device is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Live systems are cleared when the deletion completes. Backups are the one place your writing lingers, because backups are how we protect it from accidents; those copies roll off within 90 days and are not returned to service.
What we keep, and for how long
We keep a small amount of data after deletion because the law requires records of a business relationship and because we have to be able to answer a dispute. These periods come from our Privacy Policy, which is the authoritative version:
- Account and billing records — up to 24 months after the account closes, for records, dispute handling, and backups.
- Support conversations — up to 24 months from your last interaction with us.
- Analytics and logs — typically 14 to 26 months, aggregated after that, subject to your cookie choices.
- Mobile crash diagnostics — up to 90 days at the SDK provider level; aggregated, de-identified figures may be kept longer.
- Legal holds — longer where the law requires it, or where we need it to establish or defend a legal claim.
None of that is your manuscript. Your writing is not kept for any of these reasons, and drafts are never used to train models.
If you pay for a plan, cancel it too
Deleting your Write in a Click account does not cancel a subscription you bought inside the iOS or Android app — those are billed by Apple or Google, and only Apple or Google can stop them. Uninstalling does not cancel them either. Cancel first, then delete:
- iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Write in a Click → Cancel Subscription. Apple requires this at least 24 hours before the next renewal.
- Android: Play Store → Profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Write in a Click → Cancel.
- Bought on our website: cancel in the app; access continues to the end of the billing cycle you have already paid for.
Questions before you go
If something is unclear, ask us before you delete rather than after — once it is done we cannot bring your chapters back.
