Write in a Click is a writing home for romance authors: both leads' wants and wounds in Story Hub, the draft beside them, and the series those books become. Robin, your story partner, searches every chapter and your Story Hub, so you can ask where the attraction first shows or when she last mentioned the ex. Robin never changes your manuscript on its own. In Edit Mode it can suggest changes, and nothing lands unless you keep it.
Romance is the genre with a contract. Romance Writers of America defines it by two elements: a central love story, and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending. In practice that ending is a happily ever after (HEA) or, often mid-series, a happy for now (HFN). Setting, era, heat level and subgenre are yours to choose. Break the ending and readers will say so.
Because the destination is known, the craft is in the route. Gwen Hayes' Romancing the Beat, a structure many romance authors plot with, splits the book into four phases: setup, falling in love, retreating from love, and fighting for love. The retreat is where drafts tend to sag. The wound that keeps each lead from love has to be real enough that the breakup, the black moment, feels earned, and the grand gesture has to answer that exact wound.
Readers also choose by trope and heat. Enemies to lovers, second chance, fake dating and forced proximity each carry expectations about pacing, and a closed-door romance and an open-door one are different promises. Many romances alternate the two leads' points of view, and many authors write interconnected standalones: one couple per book, the next couple glimpsed in the background.
Keep each lead's goal, fear and history in their Characters entry and the places they share under Places. Robin reads Story Hub as well as the manuscript, so a question about his sister's name gets its answer from your own notes.
For a chapter, see estimated Opening hook, Closing hook, Pacing, Tension and Emotional resonance, with an Engagement Curve and the weakest area. Premium; comparing a selection of chapters is Pro.
Send a review link with Read only, Can comment or Can suggest edits access, a label and an expiry from 1 to 365 days. Readers open it without an account; suggesting edits asks them to sign in. You can revoke a link at any time.
On Pro, create a series with a description Robin reads when you work on later books, set the reading order, and export an omnibus as one file or a bundle as a ZIP, in EPUB, PDF, DOCX, TXT or Markdown.
EPUB, PDF and DOCX export on every plan, Free included, for Kindle Direct Publishing, Apple Books, Kobo or your editor.
Every Write in a Click writer gets Your Site at writeinaclick.com/@yourname, built from the books already in your account. The Romance style is warm and soft, for romance and romantic comedy. SEO & AEO by Robin, included free.
Robin never changes your manuscript on its own. In Edit Mode it can suggest changes, and nothing lands unless you keep it. You can talk a scene through in chat — what she wants in this moment, why he holds back — and Robin answers from your own chapters and notes. Proofing runs when you ask it to, and changes only what you accept.
Not as a checklist: there is no built-in beat sheet. You can lay the phases out as chapters, ask Robin where a beat currently lands, and run Reader Pulse (Premium) to see which chapters read flattest on tension or emotional resonance. Whether the black moment works is still your call, and your readers'.
Creating a series is part of Pro ($49 a month or $441 a year). A series holds a title, tagline, description, cover and planned number of books; you can reorder books, refresh each book's summary and export the set. On Free and Premium, each book still has its own Story Hub.
Yes. Export EPUB for e-book stores, PDF for print proofs or DOCX for an editor or formatter, then upload the file to the store you publish with.
